Five months ago, I woke up with a hell of a migraine. I’m talking put you on your butt and hide under the bed kind of migraine. Normally during these moments I do exactly that, hide under the bed. The problem is lately I’ve noticed I might have some slight overachiever tendencies. If you asked my family they would maybe disagree, but I’ve also come to realize that sometimes family are the people that fully see the real you. That’s a convo for another day. For right now, we are talking about my migraine and the day that changed my year.

See, I didn’t want to feel like I wasn’t being productive (which is a whole other tangent I can go down). I turned on The Spa Girls podcast and laid down to wait for my medication to kick in. The one I chose was From Zero to $3K in 3 Months. I planned to fall asleep on it but ended up staying awake for the whole thing.

I have been ghostwriting for basically two years now. Mostly short stories. They each end up around 15K and every time I turn one in I think “I should do this for myself”. I have been thinking that same thought for 2 YEARS and nothing. In fact, all but one story I started during that time were still unfinished. I did write a collection of what I call flash fiction, but others call shorts. But past that nothing. Yet as I lay there with my eyes closed and my head killing me, that same thought came back. I should do this for myself.

Eventually, I fell asleep, but when I woke up I still had the same thought. The problem was that I was still ghostwriting which took up a lot of my time. If I was going to do this, I didn’t think I could do it alone. I went back to watch the video again, and now that my head wasn’t playing out a samba I could actually pay attention and take notes. This lady worked with a co-writer and suddenly a plan was born.

My friend Des is a fellow writer and ghostwriter so I knew she understood deadlines. We both wrote romance, and it seemed like a great idea. To test the waters I sent her the link to the video and waited. It wasn’t until we got on a video call and I dropped another hint she jumped in. She went and watched the video and from there we decided to maybe come up with a plan together.

Again that was five months ago and so far we have released two free books and ten others on Amazon. Apparently, we have also inspired a few of our other writer friends to dip their toes in the short romance pool. So I decided I would use this space to journal how we got here and where we go from here.
